CHAMPS, Capitol Hill’s Chamber of Commerce, will present its 3rd annual HILLY AWARDS on November 13, 2011 at the Atlas Performing Arts Center located at 1333 H Street, NE, Washington, DC. The HILLY AWARDS is the culmination of a 2-month long process where the greater Capitol Hill community nominates and votes for its favorite businesses in 12 different categories, including Restaurant of the Year, Retailer of the Year, and Best New Business.

In July 2011, the CHAMPS HILLY AWARDS received the DC Economic Partnership’s citywide award for Small Business Initiative of the Year. That recognition has taken this year’s event to a new level and guests can expect more glitz and glamor than ever before.

During August and September, over 2100 nominations were made online which then determined the official nominees in each category. Voting is under way (at www.capitolhill.org) until midnight October 28. On November 13, the winners will be announced at a grand gala in Capitol Hill’s own campy version of the Grammys and Emmys. In addition to the twelve publicly chosen winners, three additional HILLYS will be presented. Two of these are chosen by the CHAMPS Board of Directors (CHAMPS Member of the Year and the CHAMPS President’s Award). The winner of the third special HILLY AWARD—Bartender of the Year—will be determined by the event’s attendees.

CHAMPS member restaurants and taverns have been asked to nominate one of their bartenders to be included on a special ballot that will be released to the public on October 31. The community will have one week to vote to determine who this year’s four guest bartenders will be. Throughout the HILLY AWARDS gala, attendees will cast their votes for their favorite of the four bartenders and he/she will be presented with the official award during the Celebration part of the evening.

The November 13 event begins at 6pm with a special Red Carpet Reception in the elegant lobby of the Atlas Performing Arts Center. Complete with red carpet and HILLY backdrop, attendees will have their photos snapped by the paparazzi as they enter the reception. Hors d’oeuvres for the Red Carpet Reception will be provided by several local restaurants and an open bar, provided by Schneider’s of Capitol Hill, will be tended by the four guest bartenders chosen by the greater Capitol Hill community.

At 7pm, the doors to the beautiful Lang Theatre at the Atlas will be opened and guests will be invited to take their seats for a full-scale awards production where the winners in all categories will be announced.

Following the production, guests will be ushered into the Atlas’ Sprenger Theatre where they will be served desserts and coffee provided by local businesses. In addition to music and dancing, the celebration will feature a special four sided bar, showcasing the evening’s four guest bartenders. At 9:45pm, votes will be counted and at 10pm, the HILLY AWARD for Bartender of the Year will be presented.

All of this along with the other special surprises planned to wow attendees, the 3rd Annual HILLY AWARDS is a must-not-miss event!
