In the Lab is a year-long series of shows presented by Glade Dance Collective at Atlas Performing Arts Center, showcasing new works-in-progress by Glade members and other choreographers from throughout the DC dance community.
Emily Ames (she/her) is a dancer, choreographer, and collaborator who adds sequins and a touch of levity wherever she can. She graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with degrees in Dance and History, then stashed her diplomas in the back of her closet to work in Marketing and Communications at The Phillips Collection. When not at her 9-5, Emily dances for Heart Stück Bernie and darlingdance, along with creating her own work for stage, screen, and non-traditional spaces. Her choreography has been supported by Dance Metro DC and Washington Project for the Arts, and she was commissioned by Dance Place to create a physically-distant work as a member of ANC: artist neighbor collective.

Lauren DeVera is a dancer, choreographer, host of the Thrive and Thread Podcast, and authenticity coach. Known for her infectious energy, warmth, and radiance, Lauren’s been teaching, curating, facilitating, and performing in the DMV area for the last 13 years. Her credits include The Kennedy Center, Howard Theatre, Dance Place, Culture Shock DC, World of Dance, BET’s 106 & Park, CW Network, Ladies of Hip Hop, and various universities. She is the proud founder of The Lion’s Den, a welcoming community connecting people through dance, wellness, and self-expression. She debuted “Nanay”, a dance work exploring the mother wound, at Joe’s Movement Emporium as the 2021-2022 Arts Incubator Resident Artist and recently premiered her dance film, “Reclaiming Us” as the 2022-2023 NextLook Resident Artist, in partnership with The CLARICE at UMD, exploring Asian American narratives and mental health. Lauren’s excited to continue cultivating community & empowering others to express their authentic selves!
Sarah Beth Oppenheim she/her I come from: 38 dance studios, 4 particular kitchens, and 2 synagogues from the Wild Wild West, skyscrapered NYC, trampoline sidewalks of Berlin, and begrudgingly beautiful sunsets over the Potomac. I like to use scraps, abandoned tools, and painters tape to cut and paste curious inquisitions into everything from pelvis-motored site-specific choreography to burritos. I believe in deepest plie to bend traditions, antiracist pedagogy to bend academia, and dance as an everything salve. As a Teaching Artist Mom, I mine, swap, and alchemically mix choreographic research, community engagement, and arts & crafts between stage, studio, classroom, and nursery. Work/love finds me as a Teaching Artist at Dance Place, Adjunct Professor at American University and the University of Maryland, Mentorship and Education Coordinator at BlackLight Summit, and Artistic Director of Heart Stück Bernie. I’m currently a 2022-2023 Fillmore Prize Winner for dance and social impact. I use my space at The Fillmore School to program think-and-move-tank events: luscious deep dives in partnership with rigorous curiosity, persevering connections, and heart-intensive dancers. In Summer 2023, I’ll be a Parent Artist in Residence through GALLIM (NY) and Marble House Project (VT). My most recent project was the 40-person site-specific extravaganza Many Extra Only More at Extra Space Storage in Brookland.

Sylvana Christopher is a DC native with a BFA in Dance from The Ohio State University. At SylviDances and Vigorous Roots, she is working to fuel DMV artists and foster interdisciplinary creative processes. Currently, she is on faculty at Dance Place, Inspired Child, TheLabDC and BodyWise.
