February 20 7:30 pm

Join Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Zafer Tawil and oud player Rabbi Zachi Asher for an intimate evening of music that transcends time and borders.

As Duo al Rouh (Arabic for “soul”), Zafer Tawil and Rabbi Zachi Asher blend ancient poetry, traditional melodies, and original compositions to create a sound that is both haunting and deeply moving. Through oud, violin, qanun, percussion, and nay, they weave a rich tapestry of Arabic music, expressing the pain, beauty, and longing that shape our world today. The Duo also explores both personal and shared histories, guiding listeners on a journey of friendship, resilience, and healing. Between songs, Zafer and Zachi share the stories behind their music.

This is an evening not just to listen, but to feel the pulse of a culture and its timeless traditions. Featuring Rabbi Healy Slakman and Philip Mayer.

Zafer Tawil, born in Jerusalem, is a master of a vast range of instruments. His music speaks to the heart of the Middle East, drawing from both classical and contemporary influences. Rabbi Zachi Asher studied oud under the renowned Lebanese maestro Bassam Saba and is the creative force behind New York’s Temenos Center for the Arts.
