December 20 – 22

We invite you to the Dance Institute of Washington’s (DIW) most popular and longest-running cultural arts production (since 1995), The Spirit of Kwanzaa!
The Spirit of Kwanzaa is a cultural arts celebration that focuses on the agricultural ceremonies of Africa. DIW has adapted the seven principles of Kwanzaa to convey the struggles and creativity of the Black diaspora. The production highlights the holiday’s principles with dance, song, live drumming, and spoken word. Immerse yourself in this life-changing experience, by exploring this year’s theme, FOR THE CULTURE. This isn’t just a catchphrase—it’s a call to reclaim our heritage as a unifying force.
Without culture there is no history, without history, there is no future.
