The event features performances by distinguished dance companies, with choreographic works by Christianne Campbell & Capital Ballet; Sylvana Christopher & SylviDances; Mariah Lopez Solonick & ArtBySolo; Diana Movius, Therese Gahl, Asami Seki, and Royce Zackery & Moveius Contemporary Ballet.
“We are thrilled to witness the artistic prowess of selected emerging and established Washington, DC, choreographers as they explore a myriad of themes and movement styles, addressing issues that resonate deeply with our society,” remarks Vladimir Angelov, Founder and Executive Director of Dance ICONS, Inc.
There are two special events built around the 2 PM matinee and 7 PM performance:
Following the 2 PM matinee, there will be an Artists’ Talkback and Q&A with the choreographers of the program, which will also transform into a Choreographers’ Forum Discussion & Open Mic for DMV choreographers, providing a democratic platform to talk about the challenges and advantages of being a dance maker today.
ALL DC and DMV choreographers are invited to attend and express their opinions via prepared or spontaneous brief statements, without advanced registration. The event will last about 45 minutes and is accessible to ticket holders for the matinee.
At the top of the 7:00 PM evening performance, we will hold a short event entitled In Memoria: a Tribute to George Jackson (1931-2024), acknowledging the prominent DC veteran dance critic, reviewer, and author, and his enormous contribution to shaping the city’s cultural and dance landscape.
Minute-long short stories and memories will be shared by those who knew George. Everyone is invited to attend and pay their respects to this great person. Advance registration is not required. The event will last about 25 minutes and will be accessible to ticket holders for both the matinee and the evening performance.
