Ntebo invites you to experience a captivating 70-minute musical journey that pays tribute to the extraordinary Black women musicians who used their voices and talents to resist apartheid in South Africa. These women, through their music, not only provided solace and strength to those fighting for freedom but also created anthems that became the heartbeat of a nation’s struggle for equality. In this performance, Ntebo will deliver a series of carefully selected covers of iconic songs that played a pivotal role in the fight against apartheid. Each song reflects the powerful emotions and messages of hope, resistance, and unity that these women conveyed through their art. Ntebo’s interpretations of these pieces will be infused with her own unique style, bringing a fresh yet respectful perspective to these timeless classics. Adding to the depth of the performance, Ntebo will also present some of her original compositions, inspired by the legacy of these women.

These original works will not only honor the past but also connect it to the present, showing the continued relevance of their messages in today’s world. Storytelling will be a key element of the performance, as Ntebo weaves narratives about the lives and struggles of these remarkable women between each song. Accompanying Ntebo is a talented 5-piece band, whose members are well-versed in both the traditional sounds of South African music and contemporary global influences. The synergy between Ntebo and her band creates a rich, immersive experience that will transport the audience across time and continents, highlighting the universal struggle for freedom. The performance will include a 7-10 minute instrumental interlude, allowing the band to showcase their skills while offering the audience a moment of reflection. This interlude serves as a bridge between the different sections of the set, providing a contemplative pause to appreciate the endurance and impact of the women being honored. Ntebo aims to shed light on the powerful role that music played in the fight against apartheid, particularly in amplifying the voices of Black women. Ntebo, a dynamic South African artist hailing from the Eastern Cape, masterfully blends African folk, jazz, and Afro-soul with her professional opera training. Recognized nationally in choral competitions, she was named the best performing solo soprano in high school, earning a scholarship for opera studies in Johannesburg due to her exceptional talent. Her accolades include winning at the South African National Post Office Choral Eisteddfod and being honored as the best solo soprano at the Oliver Tambo Choral Music Festival. Now based in the United States, Ntebo continues to share her rich heritage through performances at prestigious events. Her notable appearances include performing for the Governor of Maryland, the World Bank Group’s G20 Meeting, Passport DC, the Miss Africa-USA Pageant at Howard University, and the Oliver Tambo Centenary Celebration hosted by the South African Embassy.

A major highlight in her career was her solo concert, “Transkei to the World,” held in Maryland in October 2023, celebrating her roots and the fight for cultural expression. This concert’s success led to the release of her two latest singles, marking the debut of her solo career,her first release for streaming with accompanying live performance videos available on YouTube. Her  EP release in summer 2024 will mark a tribute to 30 years of South African democracy.

In June 2024, Ntebo performed at the Maryland Cry Freedom Exhibit at the Baltimore City Hall, an event attended by notable figures such as the Mayor of Baltimore,the Maryland US representative and State Senator. Her performance was featured in the Baltimore Sun, further showcasing her commitment to cultural diversity and the uplifting of Black voices. Ntebo’s passion for cultural diversity and her dedication to uplifting Black voices resonate through her music, making her a unique and compelling artist. Her journey is a testament to the power of music in bridging cultures and inspiring communities.
